Richard (Dick) J. Garfield of High Springs, FL age 83 passed into eternal life on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Haven E.T. York Care Center. Dick was born November 13, 1934 in the southwest corner of New York state in an area called French Creek, NY. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend Nancy Bayle. He joined the Air Force during the Korean war and completed basic training at Sampson Air Force base located on Lake Seneca in the Finger Lakes of New York. He then completed Aerial Electronic Controlled Photographic Equipment training in Denver, CO and was assigned to Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV for two years before deployment to Korea. Following deployment, he was released from active duty and assigned to the Air Reserve and then the Air National Guard at Niagara Falls AFB. He was recalled into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis and stationed at a variety of bases. He stayed in the Air National Guard until 1966. After his military service he drove tour buses in Niagara Falls, NY and Orlando, FL. He moved to the High Springs area in 1985. He retired from Lake City Community College. He was an active member of Post 16 of the Korean War Veterans Association and webmaster for the Garfield families genealogy website. He enjoyed gardening, photography, camping, traveling, and telling jokes.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Garfield, one son Keith Garfield (Linda) of Deltona, FL and four daughters Colleen Fern (Donnie) of Barberton, OH, Denise Fowler (Gerald) of High Springs, FL, Wanda Garfield of Gainesville, FL, Terry Fagerburg (Rob) of Lancaster, NY, two sisters Jean Hibbard of Lake City, FL and Leona Thompson (James) of Clymer, NY, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Florence Garfield, a son Richard Garfield, two brothers Floyd Garfield and Robert Garfield, and two sisters Mildred McEvoy and Helen Green.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM Friday, March 23, 2018 at Evans Carter Funeral Home in High Springs, FL followed by a light meal at the Old School House in High Springs. Interment will be at the Cutting Cemetery, Cutting, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Haven E.T. York Care Center 4200 NW 90 Blvd Gainesville, FL 32606 attention Judy Trotta or to the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation at PO Box 358296, Gainesville, FL 32635. Funeral arrangements were made by Evans-Carter Funeral Home in High Springs, FL.
